There is an expression in the Book of Genesis: "The grape is the tree of life." The first mention of the cultivation of grapes on the territory of Ukraine refers to the period VII-IV Art. BC Viticulture and winemaking developed around the ancient cities of Chersonese, Antikapeia, Tiritaki, Olbia in the territory of modern Nikolayevshchina. During the period of Kievan Rus, it is mentioned (Nikon's Chronicle of 1151) "Berendei and black hoods of the volost and poskosha grapes". Literary sources of the 6th century tell about the successful cultivation of grapes in the monastery gardens of Kyiv. In 1735, new vineyards were planted in Kyiv on the slopes of the Dnieper, and in 1758 - next to the Klovsky Palace, where in a few years there were about 30,000 bushes. In 1804, the Sudak School was founded, and in 1812, the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, which is associated with the development of viticulture and winemaking in Ukraine. At the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, a vine-production training and experimental demonstrative farm "Magarach" was organized, on the basis of which the Institute of Vine and Wine was created. In the Kherson province at the end of the 19th century, Prince Trubetskoy planted 200 acres of vine plantations on his estate in the village of Kazatskoye. At that time, several large vineyards and wineries were also created near Odessa and Nikolaev. In Odessa in 1905, V.E. Tairov organized a wine-making station (now the V.E. Tairov Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking). The history of winemaking in Ukraine is at least 4.5 thousand years old, and quite possibly much more. On the banks of the Dniester, winemaking was already practiced when no one had heard of French viticulture, and the Roman Empire was about a thousand years away. The tribes of Thracians who lived at the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC on the banks of the Dniester already possessed the culture of growing grapes and making wine.
