Moving a bit to the southeast, to Podillia, which is adjacent to Halychyna, you can find an even greater variety of local grape varieties. Only in one Zalishchytskyi district, in the interwar period, were seven autochthonous grape varieties from which wine was made. One of these varieties is called Kamianets (derived from Kamianets-Podilskyi). This variety is famous for the fact that both dry and dessert wines can be made from it, and it is almost insensitive to frost and diseases. In addition, the peculiarity of this variety is its vulnerability to noble rot, which makes it possible to make wines in the Tokai style. In general, German colonists, primarily Saxons, significantly contributed to the development of viticulture and winemaking in Ukraine. Such well-known wine-making centers as Bereghovo (Beregsas), Zalishchyki, Kamianets-Podilskyi had entire German quarters. In particular, 42 families of Saxon Germans were relocated to Kamianets-Podilskyi at the beginning of the 19th century, for the development of viticulture in the region. What can we say about Galicia, which the Germans began to colonize in 1773. In Lviv and its surroundings, wine was made not only from foreign grape varieties. One should also pay respect to indigenous (autochthonous) grape varieties, which were traditional for this region. Thus, the Dublyansky grape variety (derived from the name of the city of Dublyany) is a local variety of vitis vinifera. And it is quite possible that even the kings of Russia drank wine from it. Moreover, wines from this grape variety are gaining more and more popularity and take prizes at thematic competitions. The educational institution has developed and approved recipes for such fruit and berry wines: Blackcurrant sweet, Yoshta sweet, Sophia's Treasures, Sophia's stars Chudosad, Umanskoe velvet, Muscat aroma. Many of these wines received the highest awards, in particular, at the international Golden Griffin competition. By 1985, the area of vineyards in Ukraine amounted to 209 thousand hectares, and the gross grape harvest - 913 thousand tons. A modern processing base was created in Ukraine. As a result of the anti-alcohol campaign, significant losses were inflicted on the economy. Gross harvest of grapes decreased by 3-5 times. Fruit and berry winemaking was completely destroyed.
